How do you update a Garmin GPS?
GarminMelle Belle asked:
I bought myself a Garmin Nuvi 200 GPS. I realized that some places aren’t showing up on my maps. In fact, it doesn’t know where I am until I exit my apartment complex. Does anyone know how to update maps on these things? Does it cost anything? I’ve been to the Garmin website and registered my product but I couldn’t find anything on that. Please help.

If you want to update the software go here
In regards of some places not showing up on your map those could be newer places and your map may be a little older. Depending on where you bought your GPS system and how often they get a shipment on GPS you may have one with the 2008 maps on it, and the 2009 maps are out now.
Updating maps can cost anywhere from $50-$100.
Amazon has it for $50
Garmin’s website has it for $100
I believe if you bought your Garmin within something like 60 days from a official Garmin seller and it has outdated maps you can contact Garmin and they will update your maps for free.()%3Dc{05211620-161d-11dd-dc9c-000000000000}
Finally, the unit not recognizing where you are usually has something to do with the signal. Either your apartment complex doesn’t get a good satellite reception due be due just to location, tall building, trees, etc.. Or usually from a cold boot(when the unit is off for a while) it can take some time to find a satellite(minutes) and it so happens that you are out of your complex by the time it acquires a signal.
